Anaya Fernando, Founder of Sugar Sweet Bath + Body Treats

Meet Anaya Fernando, the 17-year old CEO and founder of Sugar Sweet Bath + Body Treats, a Black-owned bath and body, hair care, and beauty brand. Her company, based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, is expanding its product line in response to exponential sales growth stemming from the teen founder’s inclusion in an inspirational and best-selling book.

Anaya’s beauty company is rising to meet increased demand by expanding their product line to include bath bombs, body butters, soaps, scrubs, hair pudding, and other assorted lifestyle products. These cruelty-free and all-natural bath items look and smell like donuts, cupcakes, and other tasty food treats and are uniquely designed to bring a sense of fun back to bath time.

The product announcement follows the outpouring of interest and support of Anaya’s recent contributions to the Amazon best-selling book, The Science Behind It Volume 2. Written during the pandemic and released in December of 2020, the book includes contributions from several like-minded teen entrepreneurs and aims to inspire parents and kids alike who dream of starting their own business. In her writing, Anaya chronicles how she took a simple idea and turned it into a thriving small business. “I have dreamt of owning my own business since I was 4-years old,” says Anaya. “My parents have always pushed me to work hard and dream big, regardless of how young I was or how difficult it might be. I hope others see this book and the work I do with Sugar Sweet as a testament to everything that I have been taught and believe in.”

Anaya’s business has experienced steady growth and received numerous accolades since its inception three years ago, as the highschooler recently took second place in the Western Michigan University Pitch Competition in February 2020.

“With kid entrepreneurship becoming an unexpected but overwhelmingly positive byproduct of ‘the new normal’ ushered in by the pandemic, the book is a tremendous resource for parents and their children looking to go from an idea to a launched business,” says DAndrea Bolden, Anaya’s mother and business partner.
