How did you get to where you are today?
The hurt from my childhood at one point was so toxic in my life that it was destroying me as an adult. But, after much perseverance, hardwork and believing in myself, my relationship with God was able to turn my entire life around to becoming the person that I am today.
Lakina The Author, what should we know?
Lakina the Author wrote her first book in 2019 called Why…A Young Girl’s Search for the Truth. It is a book that turned out to be therapeutic for myself and my readers.
What do you do best?
Inspire. One of my god-given purposes in life is to teach others how to believe in themselves, their dreams and aspirations.
What sets you apart from others?
I’m not just a person that can only inspire people to believe in themselves by talking to them, but I also have the understanding of how to equip them with the necessary tools and information to make their dreams manifest. I do this through business and life coaching.
What is “failure” and “success” for you?
It’s a necessary means to an end. You can’t succeed without failure; in fact, you can’t even recognize it.

I am a motivational speaker, business coach, life coach, realtor, philanthropist, talk show host and author. I am Vice President of The Lost and Found Christian Association whose mission is to provide battered and sexually abused women and their children with a rehabilitation process that provides continuum care and empowerment.
I’m founder of The Treasure Within, a non-profit organization that is designed for young ladies ages 8-19. The program was created to motivate, uplift, build self-esteem, teach leadership skills and empower each young lady to recognize their goals, dreams and desires for their lives. It is also a program that provides transitional homes for young women coming out of the adoption system.
I am the host of Believe In Yourself Tuesday, a talk show created to inspire and uplift my viewers. And, I am a member of the Women’s Council of Realtors, and VIP member of the International Associate of Professional Women.
What excites you right now?
Watching my dreams manifest. Sometimes it’s quite overwhelming. You can push for years in some areas and not see anything happen, and then all of a sudden your life gains momentum, and then everything starts moving so fast. But, it encourages me to dream bigger. Being able to teach others to also chase their dreams is a bonus.
We are in a pandemic, BUT what’s the best thing that has happened to you this year? Being able to get my transitional homes up and soon to open
What ONE thing would you like for our readers to take away from this feature story, about you?
I would want them to remember my words more than anything. And that is to always believe in yourself at all times. It is essential to being able to persevere and achieve your dreams, even if the world is against them. Everything they need is right there inside of you, all you have to do is believe.
