The Manifesting Our Values Everyday (M.O.V.E) Community Foundation, a beacon of hope and transformation, has been quietly revolutionizing the lives of families and individuals across Alabama’s Black Belt region since its inception in 2020. Born out of a passion for uplifting underserved communities, MOVE’s impact is felt in every corner of Dallas, Lowndes, Autauga, and Perry Counties. With a mission to provide educational, financial, and behavioral health resources, this 501(c)(3) nonprofit is not just another charity—it’s a movement dedicated to revitalizing the very fabric of the communities it serves.
The foundation was brought to life by 15 women who share a deep connection to the Black Belt region. These women, all raised in the very counties MOVE now serves, have firsthand experience of the challenges and disparities faced by the community. This unique perspective fuels their passion and commitment to fostering incremental change in a region where it’s most needed.
MOVE has launched an array of programs, each with a distinct focus tailored to address specific community needs. From the Back to School Drive, which has provided over 800 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to children in need, to the Spread the Warmth initiative, where 200 gloves, hats, and blankets were donated to local homeless shelters during the colder months, MOVE’s work is both impactful and far-reaching. Their efforts have ensured that students are equipped for learning, the homeless are supported through harsh winters, and communities are fortified against the ongoing challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
MOVE’s impact extends beyond just providing immediate relief. Their initiatives are designed to build lasting relationships and create sustainable change. For example, during the Juneteenth Event, MOVE partnered with local businesses to raise awareness of free and valuable resources available to residents. This event not only celebrated freedom and heritage but also strengthened the bonds within the community, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.
The foundation’s Feed the Homeless program is another testament to its commitment to the community. Through this initiative, over 100 individuals were provided with warm meals during the winter months. But MOVE didn’t stop there. They took the time to engage with those they served, seeking to understand their needs better and identify additional resources that could make a difference in their lives.
In August 2024, MOVE’s Back to School Backpack Drive once again made headlines, successfully supplying over 800 students with the tools they need for a successful academic year. This initiative, which reached children across Dallas, Perry, Autauga, and Lowndes Counties, is a shining example of MOVE’s ability to mobilize resources and make a tangible difference in the lives of young learners. Through this event, MOVE has continued to build strong relationships with community partners, reinforcing its reputation as a reliable and dedicated force for good.
Looking to the future, MOVE has set ambitious goals. Over the next three to five years, the foundation aims to expand its brand and awareness within each community area it serves. MOVE envisions a future where it is recognized as a go-to resource for residents, schools, and local officials alike. To achieve this, they are working towards securing enough funding to establish a physical resource center—an investment that will not only anchor their presence in the community but also provide a safe space for ongoing programs that benefit both the youth and elderly citizens.
Despite the successes, MOVE is acutely aware of the challenges that lie ahead. The Black Belt region, known for its rich soil, is also one of the poorest areas in the United States. This economic disparity presents significant obstacles to the foundation’s mission. However, MOVE is undeterred. They continue to engage with community leaders, residents, and other stakeholders to understand the most pressing needs and to identify opportunities for meaningful collaboration. By organizing quarterly events focused on the unique needs of each service area, MOVE is determined to make an even greater impact.
The M.O.V.E. Community Foundation’s story is one of resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment to community empowerment. As they continue to expand their reach and deepen their impact, they invite others to join their mission. Whether you’re interested in volunteering, donating, or partnering with MOVE, there are countless ways to get involved and make a difference.
