Black-owned beauty supply store owner celebrates 13 years, launches braids beauty subscription box

Donna Heath-Gonzalez is a native of Jamaica who immigrated to the U.S. and became an entrepreneur during the 2008 recession. She exited her career in the finance industry to pursue her passion when she opened BABSHair & Beauty™, which now consists of two thriving brick-and-mortar beauty supply stores in the state of Pennsylvania, and an online beauty supply store. Not many entrepreneurs can say they’ve been in business for 13 years but Donna can make that statement and is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

When the COVID 19 pandemic swept through the nation in 2020 her business was affected by having to close for a limited time. Nevertheless, her plans to expand her first location were a success in spite of the challenges. Through her tenacity and strong will, she decided to pivot and as a result Donna, a mom of 2 and grandmother, redesigned her online store and created a one-of-a-kind all-in-one braids box called BABSHair Beauty Box™.

“Shopping online made it much easier for my customers to get the products they needed in a safe & convenient way,” says Donna. A dedicated community member & philanthropist, her main goal was to make sure her customers were satisfied. In addition to online shopping options and with the growth of online sales, Donna decided to launch her online store on other sites like Walmart.com & Amazon.

Her one-of-a-kind all-in-one braids box, the BABSHair Beauty Box™, offers 8-10 products that include everything you need to achieve your signature protective style while saving time & money. Proceeds from each box sale are donated to her Scholarship Fund for that she offers annually.

The BABSHair Beauty Box is great for DIYers, college students, and moms on the go who want the convenience of having quality products to achieve their favorite protective style. So far since the launch of the online store and braids box, the response has been amazing. Donna is looking forward to expanding her distribution and launching her signature line of hair products in the future.

Determined to thrive and succeed in the beauty supply industry, Donna has recently expanded her physical locations by adding warehouse space to accommodate the growth of her online store. In addition to her beauty retail business, she shares her 13+ years of expertise with other women by teaching them how to successfully launch their own beauty supply store.
