Mother, Make-Up brand creator, Entrepreneur, Stylist and Business Owner Brit’tney Powell was recently named as Wal-Mart’s FIRST African American Female Sole-Proprietor.

Brit’tney Powell is a Kansas City native who resides in Montgomery, AL. She is the mother of two girls, who have always inspired her business endeavors. As the creator of Kay Couture Clothing and Cosmetics, it was her oldest daughter Kate’lyn who inspired the name with her sweet sassy personality.

Brit’tney that what inspired her to start Kay Couture Cosmetics makeup line was her children. “I actually don’t wear makeup much but I was a chemistry wiz in school and loved to invent things. My children loved playing in my makeup that I did own, so one day I researched a few things, sat down in my kitchen (with my children) until we got the perfect formula.”

Kay Couture’s clothing has every style you need from dressy, to casual everyday wear. It is the woman that makes the clothing and every woman should feel good in whatever she wears. To complement each outfit, Kay Couture Cosmetics has a lipgloss and lipstick to provide the perfect finishing touch. Her Cosmetic line has now expanded to a full cosmetic makeup line.

When asked, What motivates you to take things to the next level? Brit’tney replied, “Complacency is an enemy to progress. I am a lover of fashion and cosmetics and in those industries, things change almost every day so I can’t get complacent, I have to ever evolve in business.”

Entrepreneurs: How does your mindset affect you and your business?

Brit’tney has also been featured in People Magazine three times and in Health Magazine. She has also been featured on the cover of Black Tie Magazine. Her clientele includes Lil’ mo, Crystal Westbrooks, Gwen Stefani, Ann Nesby, Fantasia, Jamecia Bennett, Meelah, Tamika Scott, Toia Jones, Olrick Johnson, Cheryl Mcwhorter, Emerald Khan, Taraji Henson, Demetria Mckinney and several celebrities from Vh1’s Love and Hip Hop.

Brit’tney Powell is not only a mother, business owner and stylist, in addition she is also a motivational speaker inspiring young women across the country. She has hosted and been invited to speak at several events bringing awareness to the growing number of women who suffer from domestic violence, entrepreneurship, women empowerment and entrepreneurship.
