In the Darkness We Will Shine

As the words of the United States has created a self-serving plaque or even worse a predator, but not just a predator a super predator. These words have led to not just fear, but legislation and a war on the communities of Black America and specifically Black American Boys.

With so many actions and avenues taken against there is still warriors who will defend, teach, and share the passion of healing the Body, The Brain, the Culture, The family, The Human Being, and the communities. Which is why Point MMA was created.

To understand Point MMA properly, it is necessary to consider the philosophical and historical elements of the Asian pioneers as well as the American pioneers.  There are elements of the martial arts and martial sciences that are missing and are overshadowed by the fighting, flipping, and tricking.  A true martial arts practitioner is like an artist expressing their art in different forms of entertainment sports etc. as a part of their craft.  A need for self-inspection, self-realization and self-expression is a part of their journey in the amazing perfecting of their technique.  It is the motivation to reach that level of personal mastery of their craft that gives them life.  This way of life is what Point MMA introduces the student to through this path of wholesome adversity.

This path requires a commitment to a pursuit of personal daily practices of physical, mental, and spiritual work.  This is the common thread that connects the student to the ancient master.  They realize, at some point in their life, that it is not the achievement of the goal that is important, but it is the ongoing process.  This process is not always driven by action; often the greatest action is not action.  It is the realization of the spiritual teacher from within that I found during my time in a jail cell in my younger years.  The saying goes, “When the student is ready the teacher will appear”.

Even though Point MMA is about sparring and fighting, fighting is a natural thing for human beings learning how to use your skills in combat as a part of the martial arts tradition.  It is the highest education in the art of fighting without fighting and for today’s youth that don’t have any baggage like myself say, “Mr. Johnson and others we can build a new breed of martial artists and future leaders”.  Point MMA gives them the warrior mindset and a feeling of safety.  They don’t try to kill, destroy, or bully others but instead they maintain good character in their lesson of wholesome adversity.

Totality of human life. When I speak about the special topic of spiritual science and the living arts, I do this because, particularly now, the science of the spirit should become an active part of life.  The living sciences should be present to reunite the separate human cultural interests that have been driven apart in the last centuries, particularly in the nineteenth century.

Through spiritual science, through a concrete point of view, we can unite the specialties without becoming paralyzed by the requirements of specialization. Today, there is also a very important reason to think about the relationship of spirit to action: education has influenced all human thinking and activity, including modern science and its great achievements. I get tired how multitudes of education and controllers try to deflect your internal happiness into their control by telling you how sick you are.

The news and media give you fear and what you don’t have and what you should do. From the commercials to the movies and into the TV shows. I don’t want you to be paralyzed by what was or is being taken away from you. Unlike new films that spears to the heart of the problem with solutions while highlighting the issues. New films like 1 Out of 100 is written by Mr. Johnson. The 1 Out of 100 mindset is all about that extra little effort that puts you ahead of the 99% that decides to rest or quit. Under the most devastating obstacles and setbacks more powerful than COVID-19, which is the negative self-talk that lives inside of all of us. This is what is shown throughout this film, a film based on real-life events and is a coming-of-age project that will spiral a movement to change the next generation and beyond.

From the beginning of beings, we knew we are connected to the universe and been trying to learn how to balance ourselves with the other. This is the process of the living arts and the spiritual sciences.

The urban neighborhood is just one place where our youth are facing dysfunction and violence.  These issues are ever present and growing in our school systems.  Bullying is a major problem that’s increasing in schools across the country.  Bullying occurs when one is consistently intimidated or harassed by another student.  Bullying typically involves nasty remarks, threats, property damage, pushing and hitting.  A bully’s actions often prevent the victim from doing well in school and enjoying after-school activities.  Bullying also has a negative impact on a child’s self-esteem.  Bullying, corroded environments, corrosive visual sights have transformed schools, communities, and neighborhoods from a safe place to learn into a stressful place of fear.

Since the Baltimore riots erupted in April of 2015 violence is spreading from city to city, which makes daily living tough for today’s youth.  Our youth need an escape from the violence they may experience in their lives.  Studies have shown that kids involved in sports are less likely to associate with and become involved in violent behaviors and crimes.  Instead, they are far more likely to earn good grades, graduate (high school and college) and become respectful, productive, and positive members of society.  Sadly, we can no longer depend on our public-school systems to provide this escape for our youth.  Sport programs in schools are becoming an endangered species.  These programs are valuable because they afford the opportunity to really learn a kid’s strengths and weaknesses.  You can learn what works for a particular kid and what motivates them to succeed.  The kids get to experience self-discovery and learn what they can accomplish by themselves.  Even though these programs offer health and behavioral benefits, self-awareness, and self-discovery, they are being eliminated in most cases due to budget constraints.

Baltimore, like many cities across the United States, is experiencing increasing numbers in their prison population.  It seems that mass incarceration in this country is in epidemic proportions.  With this being such an issue, Sesame Street The goal was to teach children how to cope with an incarcerated parent and the shame it may bring.  Most importantly, support is needed to prevent children from repeating the cycle and becoming incarcerated themselves.

We now have a much deeper scientific understanding of many of our original questions that explains how and why heart and the brain activity affects mental clarity, creativity, emotional balance, intuition, and personal effectiveness. Our and others’ research indicates the heart is far more than a simple pump. The heart is, in fact, a highly complex information-processing center with its own functional brain, commonly called the heart brain, that communicates with and influences the cranial brain via the nervous system, hormonal system and other pathways. These influences affect brain function and most of the body’s major organs and play an important role in mental and emotional experience and the quality of our lives

As we teach and share these amazing sciences of life. It’s the living art of our mental, physical, and spiritual self. The lessons and education of Unified Physics go back a long way in the history of scientific theory. In some of the earliest of teachings, human culture we find civilizations around the world that believed in the presence of a unifying field of energy that surrounds and permeates all things. The discussion then expands from physiological coherence to coherence in the context of families, workplaces, and communities. Science of the Heart concludes with the perspective that being responsible for and increasing our personal coherence not only improves personal health and happiness, but also feeds into and influences a global field environment. It is postulated that as increasing numbers of people add coherent energy to the global field, it helps strengthen and stabilize mutually beneficial feedback loops between human beings and Earth’s magnetic fields.

It’s in this living art we teach, share, practice our life as Martial Artist. Many only see the martial side. It is truly sad because this dynamic energy field provided an underlying organizing framework for all the holistic mystery sciences and was considered by some to be the source of life energy within biological systems.

With all the press and promotion of bullying and abduction in these Dojos are based on role playing and not a wholesome level of adversity through what we know is the closest thing to reality preparation, which is full contact sparring and MMA.  For us as parents and teachers, full contact like NFL tackle football is not the first stage of preparation for youth.  The first stage should be continuous flag football or what we call Point MMA.

Point MMA recognizes that children learn and development in several stages.  Pre-school age children (ages 3-6) have a very short attention span, an unequal rhythm of development and are experiencing changes to their behavior and personality. The Brain is being damaged because of the environment and other influences.

To name a few of the affected areas of the brain is sensory cortex, prefrontal cortex, amygdala, hippocampus. The amygdala signals may implicate not only fusiform cortex, but also earlier visual areas in occipital cortex and other distant regions involved in social, cognitive, or somatic responses. In the temporal domain, evoked-potentials show a widespread time-course of emotions.

The Hippocampus is a critical brain region for learning and memory a reduction in hippocampal size can make it more difficult for a child to process and deal with traumatic events, which in turn may raise both stress and cortisol levels that cause even more damage. The children the have been studied were suffering bad environment because of undergoing physical, emotional or sexual abuse, witnessing violence or experiencing lasting separation and loss. This type of developmental trauma often impairs the child’s ability to reach social, emotional, and academic milestones.

School age children (ages 7-12) have a growing attention span, a slow memory and are action oriented.  These children love repetition especially when they see themselves improving and developing self-control.  The older school age children (ages 13-17) have a longer attention span and are developing reasoning abilities.  They are becoming confident in their intellectual abilities.  The pre-adult youth (ages 18 & up) have a greater attention span and memory.  They are analytical and continue to develop their complex an abstract thinking ability.  Point MMA enhances each developmental stage to build a child’s attitude, body language and spirit.

Using innovative methods of teaching like brain science Neuro- cognitive applications and heart coherence science in Point MMA has influenced thousands of kids to become achievers in life.  Young students are treated with respect and are taught to demonstrate the same respect toward others.  We believe a child must develop strong skills and could defend themselves while understanding right from wrong.  Like Judo, Point MMA helps to develop a child’s morals.  Children are taught to be responsible and honorable, to avoid harming their opponents and to be mindful of the sacrifices made to gain something from the overall experience.  Parents enjoy seeing their child strive for excellence at school, home and in training.

What this program main function is changing the brain that connects to the physical. Neuroplasticity, also known as brain plasticity, is a term that refers to the brain’s ability to change and adapt because of experience.

Neurons that are used frequently develop stronger connections and those that are rarely or never used eventually die. By developing new connections and pruning away weak ones, the brain can adapt to the changing environment. Generally, young brains tend to be more sensitive and responsive to experiences than much older brains. But this does not mean that adult brains are not capable of adaptation. The answer is within us with proper light to shine into the darkness of ignorance, the darkness of the mind, the darkness of the spirit it is in the training we will forever shine.

Willie “The Bam” Johnson Bio:

lack Belt Magazine once commented about one of the greatest documentaries on Martial Arts put together by A&E , Willie “The BAM” Johnson’s life story. It shows his rebirth from bullying, poverty, and physical, sexual and mental abuse. Rampant crime and drugs engulfed his community. Becoming a successful drug dealer, user and criminal eventually landed him in jail. This tragic scenario almost seems to lose its edge and become less tragic, because it is a situation that is repeated endlessly in near-epidemic proportions throughout the United States.

From Tragic Lifestyle to Triumph

Johnson broke the cycle with the principle of Martial Arts to become recognized today as an Urban Legend and a member of Black Belt Magazine’s Hall of Fame along with the world’s greatest Martial Artists like Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Jackie Chan and many others. He also returned from Sports Karate as a seven-time World Champion. There could be no better representative for all of the life-changing benefits that the Martial Arts bestow.

Professor BAM has also been recognized by both eastern and western masters in the Martial Arts as one of today’s most gifted and talented Martial Artists. He got his start at age six by being inspired by Bruce Lee while residing in downtown Baltimore. Today, he is a graduate of the Beijing Physical institute of China and holds a seventh degree Black Belt under Master Kenneth Parker, a master degree under Grandmaster Dennis Brown and a first degree Black belt under Master Garcia Davis. Among his credits are a solid record of wins including the first national Triple Crown Wushu/Kung Fu title, WAKO World Title, two All-American titles, and being the first African-American to hold two national American Sports Karate Association titles.
